Path Closed

Appalling weather through the winter months has forced CEMEX UK to seek closure of the footpath that skirts its former Parkfield Road quarry in Rugby which has become a nature reserve over recent months.

Weekly checks made under the requirements of the Mines and Quarries Act showed cracks starting to appear in the surface of the path in the early part of the year. The problem was attributed to heavy rain, snow and frost during the winter.

Fearing a more serious land slip, the company sought permission from the Rights of Way department at Warwickshire County Council to close the path pending further investigations. The path has been blocked off pending more a more detailed survey and discussions with the county council.
