Community Support

Giving something back is an important principle for us. At Pentre Halkyn, we do that in a variety of ways, including our input to the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund for Wales which has released £600,000 locally since 2002.

As a company with activities that have impacts upon our neighbours, we like to do what we can to support the local community. We have done so on a number of occasions over recent years at Pentre Halkyn and in the immediate area. That support takes on a variety of forms – from donations to local causes to working closely with Halkyn Mountain Ranger Rachael Watson on practical conservation issues.

 

The Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund for Wales is one particular route through which we and other quarrying companies give something back to the communities affected by our operations. Since it was set up in 2002, the fund has contributed some £600,000 to projects that have benefitted the community in Pentre Halkyn and the wider local area. The projects are listed below:

Applications currently under consideration include a request for a contribution towards a new £900,000 community centre attached to the primary school at Brynford.

 

Quarry open tours

Quarry open tours have become very popular over recent years and provide an opportunity not just to see the site but to appreciate its wildlife. Dates for quarry tours in 2014 are as follows (all from 5.30pm to 7pm):

Guided walk looking at Halkyn's fascinating industrial heritage - Sunday 8th June 2pm - 4pm. Meeting point tba.

Children's pond dipping - Wed 30th July, 6th & 13th Aug, 1.30pm - 3.30pm.  Meeting point tba.

Tidy up the Mountain - litter picking event Sun 21st Sept 10.30pm - 12.30pm.  Meeting point tba.
